SUSTAINABILITY
Sacred Tours Peru applies sustainable practices that benefit local communities, respect cultural traditions, and encourage environmental care. Our team is trained to operate tours responsibly and to share these values with visitors.
What are the best periods for this visit?
Dry months from May to September offer clearer conditions with less rain, though weather can still change. July and August are busier and require early planning. The wetter season from December to March brings lush scenery but slippery paths; Sacred Tours Peru adjusts plans for safety.
What level of fitness is required?
The tour requires low physical effort since buses and trains cover most of the route. Only short walks at the site are needed. Those with breathing concerns should take caution. Guides move at a slow pace with stops, making it suitable for most adults.
Can dietary restrictions be accommodated?
Yes. Inform Sacred Tours Peru during booking about needs such as dairy-free diets. Although meals are not included, the agency recommends restaurants with suitable options. Some specific dietary requests may involve extra charges.
Is altitude an issue?
At 2,430 meters, mild symptoms may occur. Staying in Cusco beforehand helps with acclimatization. Guides carry basic supplies and recommend proper hydration. Traditional local teas can also help.
Can I charge my devices during the tour?
Charging is limited. Some trains offer outlets, but the site does not. Bring portable chargers and conserve battery. The team carries communication devices for emergencies.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The tour continues as long as conditions are safe. Rain gear is recommended. The site remains open, though visibility may vary. Sacred Tours Peru monitors conditions and adjusts the itinerary if needed.
Are children allowed on this tour?
Yes. Children can participate, and those under 11 receive a $40 discount with a passport. The pace is family-friendly. Guides simplify explanations and monitor for altitude effects.
How should I prepare for evening cold?
Wear layers, as temperatures may drop. Trains have heating. A hat or additional layer can make the experience more comfortable.
What are the groups like?
Groups typically consist of 2 to 8 travelers from various countries. Solo travelers integrate easily. Guides encourage conversation in English and Spanish for a welcoming environment.
Can I extend my stay at the site?
Yes. You have free time after the guided portion, but train schedules remain fixed. Buses run frequently. Sacred Tours Peru can arrange additional nights if you want a longer stay.
What type of money should I bring?
Bring small-denomination soles for incidental expenses. Remote locations may not accept cards. ATMs are available in Cusco. Around 100 soles is usually enough.
Is tipping expected?
Tipping is optional but common. Amounts typically range from 30 to 60 soles to recognize the team’s support.
How sustainable is the tour?
Sacred Tours Peru operates small groups to reduce environmental impact. Trains follow eco-friendly guidelines. Guests are encouraged not to litter, helping preserve the area and support local employment.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations 30 days before the tour receive a full refund minus the deposit. Closer cancellations receive partial refunds. Travel insurance is recommended. Sacred Tours Peru assists with rescheduling when possible.
Are there facilities available?
Yes. Facilities exist at train stations and in town, but they are limited at the site. Carry hand sanitizer. The team maintains hygiene standards throughout the experience.
